ABOUT ME
My name is Emmanuella Nwakozor .  I was born on the 25th Demember 1993. Emmanuella was chosen  to signify the importance of birth date on the Christmas day. I am from Nigeria in West Africa. I grew up in a middle class environment and am the third child of six siblings. I am getting older and I can’t help but think that I am entering what will be the most exciting, scary, rewarding, and challenging period of my life. I will be experiencing different kinds of emotions, encounters, fears, and the occasional existential crises. But, most importantly, I will be growing into the person I am meant to be.

I graduated bachelors degree with honors as one of the best college student in Nigeria, where I majored in Science Laboratory Technology, and Nutrition and Dietetics. I studied some college courses like Morphology, Genetics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics.
I’m currently pursuing another degree in Public Health and working in IUPUI's School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (Deans offices) as a Clerical Assistance.

My family has sacrificed a lot for twenty years to bring me to place where I now stand.Throughout these years, my parents always stood by me as I tried to find a forte in life.I have three sisters and a younger brother who made growing up interesting and full of fun.
I belong to a stable family which has helped and supported me in pursuing my passions

I love myself because, am a very sensitive assertive person, quiet, very friendly and outgoing with a positive attitude towards life. I like music, dancing, taking pictures, designing hair, singing, reading, and meeting new friends. I am currently living off campus with a friend and we enjoy eating pizza and Chinese food.
Moreso, everyone who knows me can attest to this. I am hardly ever in a bad mood that would take me to the point of being rude or inconsiderate to someone else. I am never disrespectful to my elders or people in authority. I try to greet everyone I meet with a smile. I believe that one bad impression can mess up a reputation that may have taken a lifetime to create.

MY Skills

The major challenge I have as a young woman searching for knowledge is the believe that life is a learning experience, and being able to recognize my own strengths and weaknesses can help me become better individuals in anything I choose to do, whether it is positive abilities and skills that can help achieve my goals or negative personal areas that need improvement. Knowing myself and what I can do,helped me recognize and overcome my weaknesses.

The first time I realized that, I wanted to be a Health Scientist was during my sophomore year of college school while taking some science class. I was working on a practical where we needed to take care of patient. Doing this practical helped me realize how careful and satisfying it was to handling patient. My choice to pursue health was made clear during my junior year in Nigeria with science classes. My school confirmed my interest in Health through the many practical’s we did throughout the year, and biology helped me discover my interest in health. Currently pursuing Public Health this year, I am taking community health courses. I see them as my favorite courses since I have already taken some of the courses in Africa. My courses and my experience in hospital helped me realize who I am and what I want to become, so IUPUI will help me become that person.

One of my greatest strengths I have recognized would have to be my ability to be a well-organized individual. I tend to write what I have to do down on paper and prioritize what is more important to least important. In doing this, it helps me organize and accomplish my work and meet deadlines that are important. A personal strength that I have at home is patience. I am the 3rd child in the family of six.  Patience is my greatest strength as a young woman and individual which I possess especially being a single woman.

In my working place at IUPUI, my personal strength is having good people skills. I meet and get involved with new people every day in the office. I enjoy working, meeting people, listening and giving input for my fellow students and staffs so that they can count on me as a clerical Assistant in the office. I am a self-driven, motivated female. I have always been an academically bright student. I have capability to work under extremely stressful conditions. In fact, my work keeps the fires burning for me.

I guess, my basic instinct, is to keep learning and exploring, all the times. Reading has been my hobby since childhood, and it is an activity, in which I spend most of my weekend time, till date. I can read anything; ranging from newspapers, magazines, to science journals.

Primarily, I am a hardworking and dedicated student. I have always put my best in everything that I have done academically. I am not the type of person who gets put up to a big challenge and backs down. I will always rise to the peak of my production and accomplish my goal.

My college Achievements

One of my greatest strengths as a student includes flexibility, compassion, passion for success in life, and extremely hardworking. I am hoping IUPUI will help me to improve on all of my strengths.

Creativity is one of my strengths, because it is the key to solving any problem. To break down a problem into smaller and more manageable components, you have to think creatively. Another important strength is my strong work ethic. I have the ability to work hard and stay focused in any distracting environment. It is easy for me to accomplish tasks while others may try to distract me. For example, in class, I am able to get all my work done on time without being sidetracked. I am also very organized, dependable and reliable. This helps me to get things done faster and more efficiently. When working in teams, others can count on me to do my fair share of the work and not let them down.

During my first semester

•   I got connected. My mentors where excellent people that helped me when issues arise. They always helped me solve problems, and referred me to the appropriate resources.

•   I got involved. Student organizations were a very fun way to interact with other students and faculty. Meeting people with similar interests was an exciting way I made friends and participated in social activities.

Culture shock was a major challenge for me. It was hard to get into the swing of college. I found that despite the accents, idioms and slang made it difficult for me to understand their peers. I struggled to make friends, increasing the sense of isolation that can come from being far from family. Sometimes I became homesick and wanted to be alone, when I thought about my family back in Africa. While peers traveled home for holidays like Thanksgiving in the United States, I was left alone since I can’t travel frequently to Nigeria. The process of living in a culture different from my own was an exciting and stimulating experience.  It was also a tremendous challenge as I realized that my “normal” way of perceiving the world and my behavior was not appropriate in a new cultural setting
